Influenced by late '80s, early '90s shoegaze and alt-pop, these Oklahoma City fellows have a fantastic grasp of melody and space. Instead of drowning their guitars in fuzz, Man-Made Objects actually let their fingerpicked progressions ring out fairly clean on this track, letting the vocals carry the echoes instead. It's a smooth marriage of texture that makes the genre sound fresh.
These guys do it best onstage. Here's a high-quality video of them doing a creeper of a song from their amazing album Embryonic.
The new video for Other Lives' single "Tamer Animals" (off the LP of the same name) is a gorgeous exercise in gloom. The stylized rendering of a city trapped in time perfectly complements the Stillwater, OK group's melancholy, piano-based post-punk. Imagine Interpol's driven monotone infused with denser, more dynamic textures and you'll get a pretty good idea of how good Other Lives sound. Watch the video below.

If you haven't heard of Daytrotter, they're the guys who find the best indie bands from around the country and invite them up to their studios to record a session. They then put the tracks online as free mp3 downloads. Daytrotter has become one of the most widely-read music sites out their for its commitment to connecting fans with free, unique tracks from their favorite bands or bands they've never heard of before. It's a great way to discover new music without buying a whole new album, and worth following just for Sean Moeller's stellar write-ups of each band's sound.
One of the best exports that the state of Oklahoma has released upon the world is the country music sensation Garth Brooks. Brooks was my absolute favorite singer from about the ages of nine to twelve, and I was so obsessed that I had posters of him all over my room. I had all of his cassette tapes (then, later, his CDs; I still have those around here somewhere), videotaped him every time he was on television, and even dressed up as him to lip synch during a school talent contest.
Yeah, I think Garth was my first obsession. Read more about Garth Brooks, A Product of Oklahoma

The musical scene in Oklahoma City is much more complex and layered than many might think. The image this city has created is that lawless, guitar playing cowboys and honkytonks - but that is not exactly how things are in reality. This town lot to offer - from heavy metal to rap there is truly something for everyone.
